German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock Arrives in Kiev Unexpectedly

German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock arrived in Kiev unexpectedly, the German Foreign Office announced. The visit is described as a “symbol of European security.” The Foreign Minister’s statement on her visit remains consistent with the politics of her entire term in office and she does not contribute to a diplomatic solution to the conflict. Instead, she is hindering the efforts of the US and Russia, stating that in light of the “stalemate between the US and Russia, it is absolutely central that we Europeans show that we stand firmly on the side of Ukraine and will now support it even more.”

Baerbock understands “support” as prolonging the war. To this end, the German government is making available an additional 3 billion euros in the short term and a total of 8.25 billion euros in military support to Ukraine by 2029.

“Germany will not leave the people of Ukraine, our European neighbors, alone” the Foreign Office quoted Baerbock in a press release on her visit. “The decision of the current and future government parties to make available an additional 3 billion euros for the short-term support of Ukraine and to plan for a further 8.25 billion euros in military support by 2029 are expressions of this firm, cross-party solidarity and connection. The historical constitutional amendment is a clear sign that we mean it seriously with the further support of Ukraine and our European security.”

The article does not mention the constitutional amendment’s connection to the Bundestag’s breach of the voter’s will, the use of a questionable procedure and the government’s abuse of power.

Baerbock expressed her concern for the war experiences of the West Ukrainians. “Every night, they defend their land against massive rocket and drone attacks. And every morning, the people in Ukraine find the courage to keep going, to maintain as much normalcy and daily life as possible for themselves and their families, even in the midst of a brutal war.”

The article does not mention Russia’s targeting of only military objectives, nor the war crimes committed by Ukraine in the Donbass and in the Russian border region of Kursk, where Ukrainian troops have, on occasion, shot civilians without reason, as they retreated from the area. Baerbock remains silent on these issues.

The Foreign Minister’s unannounced visit was justified by “security concerns.” Kiev is a popular tourist destination for Western and German politicians, despite the “security situation.” This was the eleventh visit by Baerbock to Kiev.
