Augsburg and Kiel Advance in German Cup

FC Augsburg advanced to the second round of the DFB-Pokal with a 2-0 victory over Halleschen FC. Steve Mounié opened the scoring for Augsburg, heading in a cross from Wolf. Samuel Essende then sealed the win in the second half after winning possession deep in the opponent’s half, a move initiated by Saad who provided the assist for Essende to score from eleven meters.

While the regional league side Halleschen FC created several opportunities, they were unable to convert them into goals. Augsburg faced a challenging contest, with the three-league difference between the teams often appearing minimal throughout much of the match.

Elsewhere in the first round, Holstein Kiel defeated FC 08 Homburg 1-0, with goals from John Tolkin and Alexander Bernhardsson. SV 07 Elversberg also secured a narrow 1-0 victory over SSV Ulm 1846, thanks to a decisive goal by Felix Keidel. Both matches were closely contested, with the eventual winners-generally considered the favorites-ultimately prevailing. Ulm demonstrated competitive play in the initial stages, but the quality difference in favor of Elversberg became increasingly apparent as the game progressed.
