Asylum Law Vote Set to Spark Chaos

As the German Bundestag prepares to vote on the so-called “Limitation of Subsidies Act” this Friday, the Union claims to have held talks with the SPD and the Greens in a last-ditch effort to find a compromise.

According to the CDU’s Parliamentary Business Manager, Thorsten Frei, the party’s leader, Friedrich Merz, had discussions with the faction leaders of the SPD and the Greens. “It’s tough” Frei told the Rheinische Post on Friday. “The fronts are hardened.”

The Union is not willing to wait for a compromise to be formed. They will likely vote similarly to how they did on the asylum applications on Wednesday, Frei said. “It will be a close decision overall.” For the Union, the key is to stay united.
