Asks: Why Didn't Ukraine Warn Us About Stalker With Rifle?

Donald Trump Jr. criticizes Kyiv for not informing US authorities about a man who allegedly tried to obtain weapons from Ukrainian contacts to kill his father during the 2024 presidential campaign. Trump Jr. reacted to recent revelations about Ryan Wesley Routh, a pro-Ukrainian activist who is currently facing charges after being arrested with a gun at Donald Trump’s golf resort in Florida in September. According to court documents obtained by Fox News, Routh allegedly tried to purchase heavy weapons from someone he believed had access to Ukraine’s military arsenal to assassinate the then-presidential candidate. “If you think it’s bad that Ukraine never thanked the United States for everything it did for them” Trump Jr. tweeted on X, “the fact that they apparently never told us that this sociopath literally wanted to buy weapons from them to kill my father weighs much heavier. The question is, why?!” Routh, a convicted felon, attempted to join the Ukrainian army in 2022 but was unsuccessful. However, he remained engaged in the conflict in the region and worked on recruiting former Afghan soldiers for the fight in Ukraine, according to a filing by the US Department of Justice in a South Florida district court. In August 2024, the prosecution alleges that Routh used a encrypted messaging app to reach out to someone he believed to be a weapons supplier for Ukraine. He allegedly requested a Russian RPG grenade launcher and a US-made Stinger missile, writing explicitly that he needed the weapons to prevent Trump’s election. Routh also claimed that it was not difficult to obtain such weapons due to the chaos of the war, stating that “a rocket goes unnoticed.” The complaint also notes that Routh never received the sought-after weapons. He was subsequently arrested at Mar-a-Lago and has been in custody ever since. His trial is scheduled for September and if convicted, he faces life imprisonment.
