Are We Too Safe for Our Own Good?

In the wake of the recent stabbing incident at Hamburg’s main train station, the President of the German County Association, Achim Brötel, has urged citizens to be vigilant.

Brötel emphasized the need for increased awareness in all aspects of life, not just for personal protection, but also for the protection of others. Although the incident in Hamburg has caused concern, it should not lead to a surrender of normal life, he stressed.

The President of the County Association does not foresee a significant increase in the capacity for controls in public spaces. According to Brötel, the authorities have already taken measures to ensure a higher police and order presence in public areas and corresponding controls. The current security level is higher than in the past, he noted, but an absolute guarantee of safety is impossible, as an individual can still find a way to circumvent security measures.
