According to FDP’s General Secretary Marco Buschmann, the recent uptick in polls is attributed to a self-reinforcing trend of support and a shift among previously undecided voters to commit to the party.
“People are saying that an FDP that represents the individual in politics, rather than always focusing on the state, is important” Buschmann told RTL and ntv on Tuesday. The party is also perceived as being committed to economic policy, he added.
Furthermore, the FDP’s strict distancing from the Greens is bearing fruit, Buschmann said. “Many people have a keen sense that with a government involving the Greens, neither in economic policy nor in migration policy is anything being achieved” he noted.
Buschmann also attributed the party’s rising popularity to the fact that Friedrich Merz is open to collaboration, but the FDP is clear that it will only enter a government without the Greens, which is a motivation for many voters, he said.
