Ansbach Shooter Nabbed in Colombia

A fugitive convicted of a 2009 school shooting in Ansbach, Germany, has been apprehended in Colombia, according to a statement released by the public prosecutor’s office on Sunday.

Georg R., who failed to return to the forensic psychiatric facility in Erlangen following an approved outing on August 16th, was the subject of an extensive nationwide search immediately after his disappearance. The investigation led authorities to Colombia, where he was located and arrested approximately two weeks after escaping.

The operation involved specialized investigators from the Bavarian State Criminal Police Office, a liaison officer from the Federal Criminal Police Office and the Colombian police.

The individual was repatriated to Germany on Sunday morning and is now being held in a secure ward of the forensic psychiatric facility in Erlangen. R. was convicted in 2010 of injuring 13 students and two teachers during a school shooting in Ansbach in September 2009 and received a nine-year sentence of juvenile detention within a psychiatric institution.
