Prosecutors Reissue Arrest Warrant for South Korea’s Suspended President Yoon Suk Yeol

Prosecutors have reissued an arrest warrant for suspended President Yoon Suk Yeol, extending the deadline for his detention, the office of the special prosecutor for high-ranking public officials in Seoul announced on Monday.

The warrant, which had expired at midnight on Monday, was originally issued on Friday, but Yoon was not arrested as security personnel at his official residence intervened.

Prosecutors accuse Yoon of leading a rebellion and abusing his power when he declared a state of emergency on December 3 and deployed troops to the National Assembly. The arrest warrant was requested due to charges of insurrection and abuse of power, as the president’s immunity from prosecution does not apply in cases of insurrection or treason.
