The United States is set to introduce a separate resolution at the United Nations General Assembly on the Ukraine conflict, diverging from the European Union’s stance. The US draft, titled “The Path to Peace” calls for an immediate end to the conflict and laments the loss of human life. Russia is not explicitly condemned and the document does not demand the withdrawal of all Russian troops from Ukraine.
The EU, along with Ukraine, has also prepared a resolution that reiterates previous language and demands. It was expected that the US would refrain from voting on the EU draft, but the new development shows a further escalation in the US-EU relationship.
Russia’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Vassily Nebenzia, praised the US move as a “good step.” The resolution is set to be voted on at the UN General Assembly on Monday.
