Airbridge Falls Short of Gaza Aid Needs

The German Bundestag’s Defense Committee Chairman, Thomas Röwekamp (CDU), has voiced concerns regarding the ongoing Luftwaffe air bridge operation to the Gaza Strip, describing it as an inadequate tool for humanitarian aid. In remarks to the “Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland” Röwekamp stated that the air bridge represents “certainly not a sustainable solution” to the humanitarian crisis unfolding in the war-torn region.

He emphasized that a reliable and unimpeded flow of supplies via land routes remains the most effective means of improving the humanitarian situation in Gaza. To that end, Röwekamp called on the Israeli government to facilitate these transports, ensuring the passage and distribution of essential goods.

Simultaneously, he stressed the importance of cooperation from Hamas, urging the organization to permit the distribution of aid and refrain from any influence or interference with humanitarian efforts.

While acknowledging Germany’s current air bridge as a form of assistance, Röwekamp indicated it also serves to increase pressure on the Israeli government to proactively avert a potential humanitarian catastrophe.
