Air India Plane Crashes in Ahmedabad, India, Leaving Fate of 242 Onboard Uncertain
A Boeing 787 aircraft, registration VT-ANB, operated by Air India, crashed in Ahmedabad, India, on Thursday, shortly after takeoff, with 242 people on board. The Indian State Police Control Center has confirmed the incident.
According to reports, the plane, which was en route from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick, had taken off before veering off course and crashing. The exact number of fatalities and injuries, as well as the cause of the crash, remain unknown.
Indian Interior Minister Amit Shah has convened an emergency meeting with the Chief Minister of Gujarat, the Interior Minister and the Police Commissioner to discuss the incident, offering support from the central government. Air India has stated that it is working to gather more information and will provide updates as soon as possible.
In response to the disaster, three teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) with a total of 90 personnel have been dispatched from Gandhinagar to the crash site, with three more teams being relocated from Vadodara.
