AI Now Aids Half of Germans

A recent survey indicates a growing acceptance of artificial intelligence (AI) among German citizens. Conducted by the polling institute Forsa on behalf of the payment service provider Visa and reported by the “Münchner Merkur” the study polled approximately 1,000 individuals to gauge perceptions of AI’s impact on daily life.

The findings reveal that over half (51%) of respondents believe AI has made their everyday routines easier. A significant majority, approximately three-quarters, categorize AI as beneficial. Notably, half of those surveyed expressed willingness to delegate online shopping to AI systems. A quarter (29%) would entrust AI with grocery shopping, while 14% would consider letting AI handle clothing purchases. A further 28% indicated openness to allowing AI to control a vehicle, a preference more common among those under 35 (37%).

Reliability (53%), time-saving capabilities (50%) and security (49%) were identified as the most critical factors influencing the adoption of AI across various tasks. Speed (38%) and personalized recommendations (37%) also ranked highly, while creativity (23%) and entertainment value (8%) were considered less significant.

The study also highlighted areas of caution. Only 16% of respondents view AI as completely secure and just 15% believe the technology is currently mature. “A large portion of people would utilize this technology – provided they retain control and AI adheres to clear guidelines” stated Tobias Czekalla, Visa’s head of operations for Germany, commenting on the survey results.
