A recent pollster’s findings suggest strong results for the AfD among young voters. According to Roland Abold, head of the Infratest polling institute, the AfD is expected to be the clear winner among young voters in the upcoming state elections in Saxony, Thuringia and Brandenburg in the fall of 2024. Abold noted that the party has significantly gained support in the 18- to 24-year-old age group, while the Greens have lost ground among the young.
“This trend is consistent with one that was already observed at the federal level during the European elections last spring” Abold said, adding that this development is linked to a changing perception of problems in the population, which also affects the decisive factors in the minds of young voters.
“The climate change issue has lost relevance since the last federal election in 2021, while the topic of migration has gained importance for the election decision” Abold noted, predicting a strong result for the AfD among young voters in the upcoming federal election as well.
