AfD’s Shocking Lack of Female Power

AfD's Shocking Lack of Female Power

The AfD’s share of women in the state lists for the Bundestag election is only at 11.3 percent. In the 16 state lists, the AfD has a total of 205 men and 26 women listed for the Bundestag election on February 23, as an evaluation by RTL, ntv, and the “Stern” shows.

The AfD’s Bundestag faction will likely be male-dominated after the Bundestag election as well. The weekend saw the last state association, North Rhine-Westphalia, elect its candidates for the election on February 23.

Three state associations, Brandenburg, Bremen, and Thuringia, have no women on their lists at all. Berlin, Hamburg, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Saarland, and Schleswig-Holstein, like North Rhine-Westphalia, have each only listed one woman.

In the most populous federal state, North Rhine-Westphalia, 39 men and only one woman were elected. At 3%, the value is under the average for AfD circumstances. The relatively most female list positions can be found in Rhineland-Palatinate, where every fourth person is a woman.
