AfD's 'Isolation' Strategy Now a Winner?

A German political party, AfD, has expressed support for the recent talks between the US and Russia to resolve the Ukraine conflict. Several German politicians, including a member of the Mecklenburg state parliament, praised the move, saying it represented a new, pragmatic approach to foreign policy, one that the AfD has long advocated for.

The party’s representatives in the German Bundestag, Matthias Moosdorf and Birgit Bessin, welcomed the development, with Moosdorf stating that he was hopeful for a diplomatic solution and Bessin saying the AfD had been right all along in its assessment of the conflict as a proxy war between the US and Russia.

The AfD’s position has been met with criticism from other parties, with some accusing the party of opportunism and of ignoring the humanitarian consequences of the conflict.

Meanwhile, the parliamentary group of the liberal party, BSW, has also welcomed the talks, with its foreign policy spokesperson, Sevim Dagdelen, saying that the EU’s military support for Ukraine had not achieved the desired results and that a new approach was needed.
