AfD Lawmaker To Testify In Espionage Case

A German Member of Parliament, Maximilian Krah of the AfD party, is scheduled to testify in the ongoing espionage trial against his former employee, Jian G. The testimony is slated for September 3rd before the State Protection Senate of the Dresden Regional Court, according to a report in “Der Spiegel”.

Jian G. is accused of conducting espionage for the People’s Republic of China over several years. The General Prosecutor’s Office has charged him with particularly serious intelligence agent activity. The investigation allegedly uncovered a significant amount of sensitive material, including internal documents from the European Parliament.

Furthermore, it is alleged that Jian G. collected information pertaining to prominent figures within the AfD party. “Der Spiegel’s” investigation revealed the seizure of three dossiers written in Chinese, which purportedly contained detailed information on internal power struggles within the AfD, purported ambitions of Co-Party Leader Tino Chrupalla and the private life of AfD parliamentary group leader Alice Weidel.

When confronted with the content of these dossiers, Krah denied exchanging party internal matters with his former employee, specifically rejecting any knowledge related to the information concerning Alice Weidel. He suggested that Jian G. may have compiled rumors and existing information and attributed them to him.

Another AfD member, Jan Wenzel Schmidt, acknowledged having spoken with G. but dismissed the statements attributed to him as largely “fabrications.

Tino Chrupalla, commenting on the passages concerning himself, stated they constitute a “false story” suggesting a possible attempt, “on behalf of a foreign power” to undermine the AfD’s dual leadership structure. Through a spokesperson, Alice Weidel indicated that she has not been informed by authorities regarding the contents of the dossiers seized from Jian G. and is therefore unable to comment at this time. Requests for comment from Jian G.’s legal defense team were reportedly left unanswered.
