AfD BSW Talks Spark SPD Alarm

The Social Democratic Party (SPD) has issued a warning regarding potential collaboration between the Alternative for Germany (AfD) and Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance (BSW) at the federal level.

Dirk Wiese, parliamentary director for the SPD, cautioned against such a partnership in an interview with the Rheinische Post. He described ongoing discussions between the AfD and BSW as revealing a “dire alliance” expressing concern that Sahra Wagenknecht’s political group might be drawn into cooperation with figures like Björn Höcke, known for his far-right views.

Wiese stated that a collaboration would be a “dangerous game” and a “fatal development” although not entirely unexpected. He urged Wagenknecht to maintain her party’s democratic course and avoid a further shift to the right.

The warning follows a controversial meeting between the parliamentary leaders of the AfD and BSW in Thuringia. AfD leader Tino Chrupalla subsequently confirmed that his party was maintaining contact with the BSW at the national level.
