Israel Seizes Gaza Activist Ship, Accusing Passengers of Media Stunt
In a pre-emptive move, the Israeli military intercepted the “Madleen”, a ship carrying Gaza activists, before it could reach the Palestinian coastal region. The ship, described as a “Selfie-Yacht” by the Israeli Foreign Ministry, was on its way to the Israeli coast, the ministry said.
The ministry accused the passengers, including environmental activist Greta Thunberg, of planning a “media provocation” and carrying little to no humanitarian aid on board. According to the Israeli military, all passengers were unharmed and were provided with bread and water.
The Freedom Flotilla Coalition, the organization behind the ship, had earlier reported that the Israeli military had stopped the vessel and “kidnapped” its crew. Israel intends to repatriate the activists to their home countries.
