A Victory, but at a Cost of Time

A German politician, Roderich Kiesewetter, a defense expert of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU), welcomes the agreed-upon package of billions of euros for military expenditures, but is dissatisfied with the timeline. According to him, the financial package was necessary much earlier, as he stated in an interview with RTL and ntv.

“I am very happy, because I have been demanding for two years now that we need to invest in defense and civilian security” Kiesewetter said. A year ago, he had mentioned that the country required additional 300 billion euros for defense and 200 billion euros for the protection of civilian infrastructure.

“Now we are deciding on almost triple that amount. We could have done it earlier and perhaps more cost-effectively” Kiesewetter stated. “But the main thing is that it has been decided.” The package not only strengthens the country’s land defense, but also benefits the Union parties.
