Germany Offers Condolences to India Following Fatal Plane Crash
Germany’s Federal President, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, has extended his condolences to his Indian counterpart, Draupadi Murmu, following the devastating plane crash in Ahmedabad, West India, which has claimed the lives of at least 242 people.
Steinmeier expressed his deep shock at the news of the catastrophic accident at Ahmedabad’s airport, where so many lives were lost. “This is a very sorrowful day for India and for all those who are close to the country and its people” he said in a statement on Thursday.
Germany stands in solidarity with India in these difficult hours, Steinmeier added, offering his thoughts to the victims and their families. He wished a speedy recovery to those injured in the crash.
According to police reports, all 242 people on board the Air India plane lost their lives in the accident. Preliminary findings suggest that the passenger aircraft crashed into a residential building, with further casualties reported in the building. The plane, which took off from Ahmedabad airport on Thursday, was en route to London when it crashed. The cause of the crash remains unknown and is under investigation.
