German-Polish Parliamentary Group Chairman Sees Polish Presidential Election as a Turning Point

In an interview with the ARD-Morgenmagazin, Paul Ziemiak, the head of the German-Polish Parliamentary Group, described the recent Polish presidential election as a turning point. He closely followed the campaign and observed an “absolute polarization” that has left the country deeply divided. According to Ziemiak, the election was unprecedented in its intensity and has significant implications not only for Poland but also for German-Polish relations.

The newly elected president, Karol Nawrocki, has been criticized for his anti-German rhetoric during the campaign. While this may make it more challenging for the two nations to cooperate, Ziemiak believes the president should still be given a chance to prove himself.

In the runoff election on Sunday, Nawrocki narrowly defeated Rafal Trzaskowski, the pro-European mayor of Warsaw.
