Austrian Military Expert Believes Russia Playing for Time with Ceasefire Agreement

Austrian military expert Markus Reisner believes that Russia is playing for time with the ceasefire agreement between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

According to Reisner, who is a colonel of the Austrian Bundesheer, the average time between the last three strategic air offensives in the Ukraine conflict was 14 to 21 days, with heavy airstrikes with cruise missiles taking place every two to three weeks. In the context of the agreement, which stipulates a 30-day ceasefire on strategic air attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, Reisner stated to the ntv broadcaster: “The 30-day agreement does not represent a real relief.”

The war on the ground, however, continues unabated, Reisner said, as Russia will only agree to a 30-day ceasefire if mobilization in Ukraine is halted and the country stops receiving weapons from the West.

In addition to the proposed further negotiations on a ceasefire in the Black Sea and a prisoner exchange, Reisner observes a US administration drive towards normalizing relations and economic cooperation with Russia. “There is no more pressure on Russia to be seen here” the military expert said.
