A CDU Generalsekretär Carsten Linnemann has called on the SPD leadership, particularly Chancellor Olaf Scholz, to distance themselves from the violence targeting CDU politicians. This comes after two young CDU politicians were attacked and lightly injured during a campaign event in Berlin on Tuesday evening. In Hamburg, information stands were cancelled and the police are reportedly monitoring CDU campaigners. This is not an isolated incident, as there were previous attacks on CDU offices and a murder threat made against a CDU employee in the preceding week, confirmed by the Konrad-Adenauer-Haus.
Linnemann described the recent incidents as criminal and stated that the “left-wing spiral of violence” is continuing. He emphasized that the protests are not justified and that the CDU will take legal action against the perpetrators.
