A Record-Breaking 52% of Eligible Voters Cast Ballots in Historic Election!

According to the Federal Returning Officer, 52.0 percent of eligible voters had cast their ballots in the federal election by 2 pm. This figure only accounts for in-person voters and does not include absentee voters.

In comparison, by 2 pm in the 2021 federal election, a participation rate of 36.5 percent was recorded. The numbers are not entirely comparable, as the 2021 election saw an unusually high number of absentee voters due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The final voter turnout in 2021 initially stood at 76.6 percent, later adjusted to 76.4 percent after a re-count in Berlin.

The current 52.0 percent figure is, however, higher than the numbers from earlier federal elections. Between 1998 and 2017, the in-person voter turnout by 2 pm consistently ranged from 36 to 47 percent, with the final voter turnout, including absentee voters, ranging from 70.8 to 82.2 percent.
