The Slovak Prime Minister, Robert Fico, discussed various international initiatives to resolve the Ukraine crisis in a radio interview with STVR on Saturday. Since taking office in 2023, Fico said he has spoken with many top politicians about a peaceful solution for Ukraine, specifically mentioning Russian President Vladimir Putin, Chinese President Xi Jinping and Brazilian representatives. He summarized his experiences by stating, “I believe the only person who has a real plan regarding this war is the Russian President Putin. That’s all I will say about it for now.”
Earlier, Fico had accused Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of not wanting peace, claiming that the Ukrainian president makes a living from the war. In fact, Fico said, the entire Ukraine lives off the war.
This week, US President Donald Trump also commented on Russia’s intentions regarding Ukraine. The Republican said that Putin wants peace and his administration has a good relationship with the Russian leadership. It is hard for him to negotiate with Ukraine, unlike with Russia, as he acknowledged. Trump concluded that Kiev has no cards, making it easier to negotiate with Moscow, which has all the cards.
