Financial Markets Close with Mixed Results
The US stock markets closed with a mixed performance on Wednesday, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average finishing the day at 42,982 points, a 0.3% decline compared to the previous day. In contrast, the Nasdaq 100 index closed at 22,238 points, a 0.2% increase, while the S&P 500 index ended the day at 6,092 points, barely retaining its previous day’s level.
Nvidia’s shares were in high demand, with the company’s stock price surging to a record high. As a result, Nvidia overtook Microsoft as the world’s most valuable company by market capitalization.
The euro, the common currency of the European Union, was stronger against the US dollar on Wednesday evening, with one euro equivalent to 1.1659 US dollars and one US dollar to 0.8577 euros.
Gold prices also rose, with a troy ounce selling for 3,333 US dollars, or 91.92 euros per gram, a 0.4% increase.
Meanwhile, the price of Brent crude oil, a North Sea variety, increased by 1.2% to 67.93 US dollars per barrel, or 79 cents more than the previous day’s close.
