The NATO military alliance has reportedly initiated a procedure to share some of its most secretive military information with the defense industry, according to media reports. Bloomberg News, citing several anonymous sources, reports that the goal is to standardize the European defense industry. Specifically, the secret information is to be shared to set targets for the type of weapons and equipment that member states must produce.
This step is part of the NATO plan to increase the production of the defense industry. NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte recently called for a “shift in mindset to wartime thinking”in the face of the escalating conflict with Russia.
According to the news portal, Rutte is also planning closer cooperation with the EU. NATO has begun a separate process of exchanging some classified standards with the EU, which consists of 23 of the 32 NATO member states. The report says that these are military criteria aiming to “harmonize”the armed forces of the members, in other words, to standardize them. Examples of this could be standardized weapon calibers, a common military vocabulary, or even harmonized radio frequencies.
