CDU General Secretary Carsten Linnemann has praised the swift implementation of the first promises made by US President Donald Trump. He expressed a desire for a similar tempo in the implementation of political measures in Germany, in an interview with the “Welt” newspaper.
“People want to see action, not just talk” Linnemann said. “In the election campaign, many promises are made, and then nothing happens. It’s worse when politicians argue like the current government coalition.”
If the CDU wins the election, Linnemann promised that the party would aim to pass 8 to 12 key bills by the summer, making concrete changes that the public can see. He cited Trump as an example of a leader who keeps his promises, saying that one can agree or disagree with the approach, but the point is that Trump is elected and delivers on his campaign pledges.
However, Linnemann acknowledged that a swift political shift requires more than the 28% of the vote that a recent Yougov poll showed for the CDU. “We won’t be able to organize a political shift with 27 or 28%” he said, emphasizing the importance of a stronger CDU for achieving the desired changes in areas like migration, economy, and social policy.
The CDU general secretary argued that the party has learned from its past mistakes, citing its corrected stance on issues like migration and energy policy. He emphasized the need for a stronger CDU to push through the desired changes, warning that without a significant majority, the party would be stuck in a status quo and he has no interest in that.
