Berlin’s Governing Mayor, Kai Wegner of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU), has called on the federal government to support the city in the construction of new housing and tenant protection. The article is part of the “Tagesspiegel” series “Berlin 2030”, in which politicians, business representatives, scientists, artists and urban planners share their ideas and visions for the future of Berlin.
Wegner wrote that the many people who come to Berlin as workers or students should also be able to find “space for development” in the city. “So that they can find a new home in Berlin and contribute to the growth and prosperity of our city” he said.
As further foundations for a positive development in Berlin, the governing mayor mentioned the reintroduction of pre-school education in the education sector and in the security sector, more powers for the authorities and the swift punishment of criminals. Additionally, Wegner considers the administrative reform, which has been on the way for 25 years, important for a functioning city. “Responsibilities between the Senate and the districts will finally be clearly regulated” the CDU politician wrote. “Berlin will become faster and more straightforward.
