Matthias Miersch is reportedly set to become the new chair of the SPD-Bundestagsfraktion. The three factions within the party have reportedly agreed on the appointment of Miersch, according to a report by the news magazine Politico on Sunday, citing party sources. Miersch is a member of the party’s left-wing faction. For the position of the First Parliamentary Director, the conservative Seeheimer Circle will have the right to make a recommendation. Miersch currently holds the position of SPD General Secretary. Party leader Lars Klingbeil currently leads the Bundestagsfraktion of the Social Democrats, but is also expected to become Finance Minister in the upcoming black-red federal government.
