A Global Web of Arrests and Extraditions

A ten-year entry ban has been imposed on 44-year-old Russian national Vladislav Klyushin by Switzerland, effective until February 26, 2035 and also applying to the Liechtenstein territory. The decision was published in the Federal Gazette and prohibits Klyushin from entering Switzerland or Liechtenstein.

The ban follows a series of events that began with Klyushin’s arrest in Sitten in 2021, as he was on his way to a ski vacation in Zermatt. He was held in custody on the basis of a US warrant. After a prolonged legal battle, which reached the Federal Court, Klyushin was extradited to the United States in December 2021, where he was sentenced to nine years in prison for insider trading.

In Russia, Klyushin is still recognized as a prominent entrepreneur in the IT and cybersecurity sectors, having made a name for himself in the field. He was repatriated to Russia in August 2024 as part of a prisoner exchange.

The new entry ban sends a clear signal from Switzerland that it takes a strict stance against foreign nationals involved in international crimes. Meanwhile, Klyushin remains a controversial yet significant figure in the technology and cybersecurity world for many in Russia.
