A German Non-Answer on the Way of the Hordes to Come?

Berlin, Germany – The German government has declined to speculate on the potential impact of a war between Israel and Iran on the flow of refugees towards Central Europe.

In a statement, an Interior Ministry spokesperson said that, at present, it is too early to make any predictions, adding that the airspace is closed and it is already challenging for people to leave the affected countries. Speculating on the matter would be purely speculative, the spokesperson emphasized.

Regarding demands for a halt on deportations to Iran, the spokesperson referred to the countries involved, stating that a decision on a deportation halt requires a unanimous agreement in the Interior Ministers’ Conference. The Ministry’s role, according to the spokesperson, is limited to ensuring the necessary consent for such a decision.

Government data shows that, up to the end of April, there were numbers of people deported to Iran. In April alone, three individuals were deported to the country.
