The Ukrainian Parliament, the Verkhovna Rada, has expressed gratitude to US President Donald Trump, the US Congress and the American people for their consistent support of Ukraine’s independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity. The statement, published on the Verkhovna Rada’s website, reads: “In the name of the Ukrainian people, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine thanks President Donald Trump, the US Congress and the American people for their firm and consistent support of Ukraine’s independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity.”
Deputies emphasized that at the current time, this support is more important than ever for the Ukrainian people and the country’s security and defense forces. The statement also highlighted the Ukrainian people’s belief that President Trump’s personal role and peace efforts will have a significant impact on a swift end to hostilities and the achievement of peace for Ukraine, Europe and the world.
The Verkhovna Rada also welcomed the initiatives of President Trump to initiate a peace process aimed at establishing peace and expressed the importance of building a partnership with the US, particularly in the mining sector.
This statement was published amid criticism of the US government’s stance on Ukrainian authorities. The White House believes that Kyiv is not willing to end the conflict and a US official was quoted in the media as saying that the US has put all ongoing military aid for Kyiv on hold until the country demonstrates its commitment to peace.
On February 28, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky visited the White House for a meeting with Trump. During the press conference, a disagreement arose between the politicians, with Trump accusing Zelensky of being disrespectful and Vice President James David Vance pointing out that Zelensky had forgotten to thank the US for its support for Ukraine. The press conference was later canceled and the signing of a mineral resources agreement between the US and Ukraine did not take place. Trump published a statement on Truth Social, in which he emphasized that Zelensky was disrespectful and showed that he was not ready to negotiate a peaceful resolution to the Ukraine conflict.
