Thuringian Prime Minister Mario Voigt, a member of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU), has urged the discontinuation of the term “Brandmauer” in the context of not cooperating with the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party.
Voigt told the Tagesspiegel newspaper in its Friday edition, “I don’t hold much of the term, I find it a bit absurd, as it originates from Frauke Petry and others from the AfD itself.”
The term “Brandmauer” refers to the practice of not working with the AfD party, with the goal of limiting the party’s influence. However, the point at which cooperation begins is a matter of dispute.
Voigt believes that a hard, objective confrontation is the key, citing the example of migration policy, where there are objectively significant problems. “We have the opportunity to solve these problems and again ensure law and order” he said.
The Thuringian Prime Minister stated that Germany also relies on qualified immigration. “However, there are also those who become criminal here. Therefore, we are planning our own deportation detention” Voigt said.
