Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul Expects Crucial Week for Global Security
In a press conference ahead of a meeting with his European Union counterparts in Brussels, German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul expressed his anticipation for a decisive week for global and European security.
Wadephul emphasized the importance of the upcoming meetings, including the EU Foreign Affairs Council, the NATO Summit and the European Council, in contributing to a safer world. He also highlighted the message conveyed to Iran in Geneva on Friday, urging the country to be prepared for direct talks with the United States. The minister stated that the message had not been fully understood and would be reiterated.
A negotiated solution is more urgent than ever and Iran is now expected to be ready for direct talks with the United States, the minister said. The E3 format, comprising Germany, France and the United Kingdom, will contribute to the efforts in any way possible, Wadephul added.
Contrary to the impression that Europe has lost its relevance in the region, Wadephul believes that the European community has a strong position. The minister also mentioned that the United States has been encouraging Europe to remain engaged in the diplomatic process, acknowledging the significant role of the European Union in international diplomacy.
