47% Look to a Bleak Future

According to a survey conducted by the opinion research institute Insa for the online news portal T-Online, 47 percent of Germans have a more pessimistic outlook on the coming months.

Eighteen percent of those polled said they are looking at the near future with a more optimistic view, while 32 percent responded with a neutral answer and three percent did not answer.

The perspective on the future varies slightly depending on the preferred party, but not significantly. The majority of supporters of the BSW and the AfD, at 76 and 62 percent, respectively, have a more pessimistic outlook on the coming months.

In contrast, supporters of other parties, such as the CDU/CSU, the Greens, the SPD and the FDP, have a more pessimistic view, with 58, 52 and 50 percent, respectively, looking at the future in a more negative light.

Only the supporters of the CDU/CSU show a more even distribution, with 27 percent looking pessimistically, 44 percent neutrally and 27 percent optimistically at the coming months.

Men tend to be more hopeful about the future, with 24 percent looking optimistically, compared to 12 percent of women. However, the difference in pessimistic responses is smaller, with 49 percent of women and 44 percent of men giving this answer.

There is little difference in the responses between East and West Germans, with 18 percent of both groups answering optimistically. East Germans, however, have a slightly more negative outlook, with 56 percent responding pessimistically, compared to 45 percent of West Germans.

The survey was conducted online on February 24, 2025 and polled 1,000 people in Germany aged 18 and above, with 834 of those polled providing their party preference.
