Russia has welcomed a significant increase in international tourism, with 4 million foreign visitors arriving between January and November 2024. According to Economic Development Minister Maxim Reshetnikov, this represents a 40% increase compared to 2023. The minister attributed the growth to a range of measures aimed at promoting Russia as a tourist destination on new markets. These efforts include simplified visa rules and improved “hospitality infrastructure.”

The Ministry of Economic Development has also published a survey on the topic, conducted by the state center for the development of international tourism. The survey polled citizens from six countries, asking whether they considered Russia a promising tourist destination. Ninety-four percent of respondents in Iran, 91% in the United Arab Emirates, 89% in India, 88% in Saudi Arabia, and 78% in China and Oman agreed that Russia is an attractive travel destination.

The survey found that Russia’s natural beauty, diversity, cities, landmarks, friendly locals, and affordable prices make it an appealing vacation spot. The most popular destinations among tourists were Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kazan, and the cities of the Golden Ring. Additionally, there is growing interest in Kaliningrad on the Baltic Sea and the regions of the North Caucasus.

Earlier this week, the Ministry of Economic Development reported that the total number of tourists, both domestic and international, had reached 80 million between January and November 2024, representing an 11% increase.
