Julian Nagelsmann has agreed to continue as the head coach of the German men’s national team until 2028. The German Football Association (DFB) announced the news on Friday in Leipzig, during the 125th-anniversary celebrations of the organization.

The DFB’s executive board, supervisory board and shareholder meeting all unanimously supported the proposal to extend Nagelsmann’s contract, which was initially set to expire after the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

DFB President Bernd Neuendorf expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “The extension of Julian Nagelsmann’s contract is a significant signal, especially in the context of our 125th anniversary. It shows that we do not rest on our laurels, but rather work towards new goals.”

Nagelsmann himself seemed driven, saying, “I wouldn’t have imagined in September 2023, when I joined the DFB, that I would still be the head coach after the home European Championship. Our big goal was to have a successful tournament and we have created something that we now want to develop further. We want to win titles together.”

Rudi Völler, the director of the men’s national team, praised Nagelsmann’s work over the past 16 months, saying, “He has built a close relationship with the fans, the players and the team behind the scenes and has formed a unity that is necessary for success. We are looking forward to working passionately and long-term with Julian to achieve our great sporting ambitions.
