4.9% More Permits in April, a New High!

New Residential Building Permits Issued in Germany in April 2025

According to the German Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), the number of residential building permits approved in Germany in April 2025 reached 18,500, representing a 4.9 percent increase, or 900 more permits, compared to the same period in 2024.

In the first four months of 2025, a total of 73,900 residential building permits were approved, a 3.7 percent increase, or 2,700 more permits, compared to the same period in the previous year. This figure encompasses permits for new residential and non-residential buildings, as well as new residential units in existing buildings. In April 2025, a total of 15,000 residential units in new buildings were approved, a 5.1 percent increase, or 700 more units, compared to the same month in the previous year.

From January to April 2025, the number of new residential building permits approved in residential and non-residential buildings increased by 4.3 percent, or 2,500 more permits, compared to the same period in the previous year. Notably, the number of single-family home permits approved during this period rose by 15.4 percent, or 1,900, to 14,200, a trend that has been ongoing since December 2024.

In contrast, the number of two-family home permits approved in the first four months of 2025 decreased by 9.7 percent, or 400, to 4,000. The number of multi-family home permits, the most prevalent building type, remained relatively stable, with a mere 0.1 percent decrease, or 40 fewer permits, compared to the same period in the previous year, at 38,600.
