UK Consumer Prices Accelerate in April, Inflation Rate Reaches 3.5%
London, May 2025 – The UK’s Office for National Statistics (ONS) has announced that the annual rate of consumer price inflation in the country has surged to 3.5% in April, up from 2.6% in March. The month-on-month increase in prices was 1.2% in April, a significant acceleration from the 0.9% rise in March.
Core inflation, which excludes energy, food, alcohol and tobacco, remained higher than the overall rate, reaching 3.8% in April, up from 3.4% in March. The increase in core inflation was largely driven by rising prices in the housing and household services, transport and leisure and culture sectors.
Clothing and footwear, on the other hand, contributed to the downward pressure on the annual rate, as prices in this sector decreased.
The latest figures indicate a sustained upward trend in UK inflation, which is likely to have implications for the country’s economic growth and monetary policy decisions. The data will be closely watched by policymakers and market analysts in the coming weeks.
