The Dresden State Prosecutor’s Office and the Dresden Police Department are investigating two Germans, aged 20 and 21, on suspicion of the offense of assault. The 20-year-old suspect is now in pre-trial detention, the police department announced on Wednesday.
According to the charges, the 20-year-old is accused of, on May 5 at 9:15 pm, together with the 21-year-old suspect, ringing the doorbell of a 33-year-old Ukrainian man at Pillnitzer Street, with the intention of causing him harm. When a 42-year-old German friend of the Ukrainian opened the door, the 20-year-old allegedly tried to hit him on the head with a hammer without warning. The victim managed to defend himself and was only slightly injured on his shoulder before he managed to close the door again.
The 20-year-old suspect was arrested provisionally on May 5. Upon request of the Dresden State Prosecutor’s Office, the Investigative Judge of the Dresden Magistrates Court issued a warrant of arrest on May 6. According to the police, the suspect has a previous criminal record and was subject to probation under Section 61 of the Juvenile Court Act at the time of the offense. He has not made any statements regarding the allegations and the investigation is ongoing.
