20% on the Brink of Radicalization?

In a recent study conducted by the University of Münster, researchers found that nearly 20% of Muslims in Germany experience resentments that, when combined with other factors, could potentially lead to radicalization.

The study, which interviewed nearly 1,900 Muslims over a period of four years, emphasized that not every individual with such feelings would automatically become radical. However, the researchers warned of the targeted approach by Islamists, which can exploit these sentiments.

The research highlights that feelings of offense and experiences of discrimination are particularly likely to lead to resentments when they involve generalizations about Islam. A lack of contact with non-Muslims and religious fundamentalism can exacerbate this trend. The researchers recommend increased recognition and participation, such as through Islamic religious education or social media projects, to counteract these tendencies.
