20 Billion Euro Bonanza in 11 Months!

Germany’s exports to Japan reached a value of 20.1 billion euros from January to November 2024, a 7.5% increase compared to the same period the previous year, according to the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) on Monday.

In the first eleven months of 2024, Germany’s total exports amounted to 1,441.4 billion euros, a decrease of 1.3% compared to the same period in 2023. Japan, with a share of 1.4% in Germany’s total exports, ranked 18th among its major trading partners.

Pharmaceutical products were the most significant export goods to Japan, with a value of 5.3 billion euros and a share of 26.3% in the total exports to Japan, the Federal Statistical Office explained. Followed by these were motor vehicles and their parts, with a value of 4.4 billion euros and a share of 21.7%, and machinery, with a value of 2.4 billion euros and a share of 11.7%.

From January to November 2024, Germany imported goods worth 20.9 billion euros from Japan, a decrease of 12.2% compared to the same period the previous year. The most significant import goods were data processing equipment and optical products, with a value of 4.3 billion euros and a share of 20.6% in the total imports from Japan, followed by machinery, with a value of 3.8 billion euros and a share of 18.1%, and motor vehicles and their parts, with a value of 2.8 billion euros and a share of 13.5%. With a share of 1.7% in Germany’s total imports, Japan ranked 17th in the ranking of its major trading partners. Germany registered a trade surplus of 800 million euros with Japan in the first eleven months of 2024, according to the Federal Statistical Office.
