People of all ages, from ten years old and up, dedicate an average of 7 hours and 45 minutes to leisure activities on weekends and public holidays. This is a significant increase of almost 2 hours and 30 minutes compared to weekdays, where they spend around 5 hours and 26 minutes on leisure activities, as revealed by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) in a revised report on the time-use survey of 2022.

Leisure activities encompass a wide range of activities, including media consumption, sports, hobbies and socializing. The statistics provided by Destatis are based on average values, taking into account the diverse age, gender and employment status of the population.

Men and boys aged ten and above spend an average of 8 hours and 5 minutes on leisure activities on weekends and public holidays, whereas women and girls in the same age group dedicate an average of 7 hours and 23 minutes to such activities. The difference is more pronounced on weekends and public holidays, with a 42-minute gap, compared to a 21-minute gap on weekdays.

When combining weekdays and weekends, people of all ages, from ten years old and up, spend an average of 6 hours and 9 minutes on leisure activities daily. A significant portion of this time, approximately two hours and seven minutes, is spent on watching television and streaming. Socializing, including phone calls, social media and in-person meetings, accounts for an average of one hour and 15 minutes per day, while cultural activities, such as reading, listening to music and going to the cinema, take up an average of 53 minutes per day. The time spent on sports and using computers and smartphones, excluding communication, is approximately half an hour per day, according to Destatis.
