16th Sanctions Package Unleashed, Cryptocurrency Exchange in Crosshairs!

A new package of sanctions against Russia has been adopted by the European Union, marking the 15th such measure since the start of the war in Ukraine. The package targets 48 individuals, 35 entities and organizations and one cryptocurrency exchange, according to the EU.

The new measures aim to restrict the activities of individuals and entities involved in the Russian war effort or in circumventing previous sanctions. The EU has identified a cryptocurrency exchange, for the first time, as being connected to sanctioned Russian banks and helping in the conversion of Russian rubles to other currencies.

The sanctions also extend to individuals and organizations from third countries, including a Chinese producer of space and aeronautics components, high-ranking military officials from North Korea and prominent figures in the Russian media and business world. Additionally, several companies, designated by the EU as part of the “Russian shadow fleet” are mentioned in the decision.

The new sanctions package has come into effect, as the EU member states adopted the decision on Monday.
