Germany’s Bundeswehr to Receive Significant Funding Boost, Plans to Enlist Thousands of Additional Soldiers

According to government sources, the German military, Bundeswehr, is set to receive a substantial increase in funding this year, which will enable the enlistment of thousands of additional soldiers. The news was reported by the German publication Bild, citing government officials.

Under the proposed 2025 budget, the Bundeswehr is expected to expand its personnel by 11,000 positions, including 10,000 soldiers and 1,000 civilian employees, by the end of the year. The additional positions will be distributed across all branches of the military, including the Heer, Marine, Luftwaffe and Cyber, according to the report.

Furthermore, the funding boost is expected to help alleviate the backlog of promotions for soldiers, with the current number of active soldiers standing at around 183,000, accompanied by nearly 81,000 civilian employees. The Bundeskabinett is scheduled to approve the 2025 budget on Wednesday of next week.
