However, the advantage did not last long, as Eric Martel equalized for the visitors in the 13th minute. Just before halftime, Damion Downs capitalized on a mistake by Eintracht’s Ron-Thorben Hoffmann, who had misjudged a corner kick in the penalty area and put the hosts in the lead.
After the break, Köln initially settled into a defensive posture, but in the final stages of the match, they created more scoring opportunities, while Braunschweig failed to capitalize on their own efforts. The win sees the Rhinelanders take the top spot on the table.
Next, Köln will face FC Schalke 04, while Braunschweig will travel to Karlsruher SC. The other matchday results saw Fortuna Düsseldorf defeat SSV Ulm 3-2 and Jahn Regensburg shut out Hertha BSC 2-0.
