Children and teenagers spend around 95 minutes, or approximately 1.5 hours, playing video, computer, or online games, on average, according to a survey published on Wednesday by the IT industry association Bitkom.
Under the week, it’s around 80 minutes, and on weekends, it’s even around two hours per day, on average. As children get older, the percentage of players slightly decreases, but the time spent playing increases.
In particular, among children between the ages of 10 and 12, 91% play video, computer, or online games at least occasionally, and spend an average of 81 minutes per day playing. Among 13- to 15-year-olds, 87% play, for an average of 99 minutes per day. Among teenagers between the ages of 16 and 18, 80% play at least occasionally, and spend an average of 106 minutes per day playing.
There are also significant differences between boys and girls: overall, 92% of boys between the ages of 10 and 18 play video, computer, or online games at least occasionally, while 79% of girls in the same age group do. Boys, on average, spend 121 minutes per day playing, while girls spend around 64 minutes.
The Bitkom Research surveyed 942 children and teenagers between the ages of six and 18, including 644 children and teenagers between the ages of 10 and 18 in Germany, from the 20th to the 22nd calendar week of 2024, online.
