Emissions trade income is expected to nearly double in the coming years. This is evident from the Federal Ministry of Economics’ response to the Left Party’s Christian Görke, as reported by the “Spiegel”.
According to the federal government, it is expected to generate income of 71.5 billion euros between 2025 and 2028. In the four preceding years, 37.3 billion euros flowed into the climate and transformation fund. This fund was intended to provide a climate fund for every citizen, as planned by the coalition, but it did not come into effect before the coalition’s term expired. The mechanism needed for an allocation to citizens was only decided upon by the cabinet this week.
“‘Now it is overdue for the climate fund for the average consumer to come’ says Görke, who is demanding a retroactive payout. ‘A such a late climate fund would not only be socially justified, but would also boost the economy if a few hundred euros were to be given at once’.”
The CO2 price will increase at the beginning of next year, making heating with oil and gas more expensive.
