Green faction leader Britta Haßelmann does not want the AfD to hold important parliamentary positions like the Bundestag Vice President in the next legislative period. “A party that is partly secured right-wing extremist should not be entrusted with such important positions of democracy. I trust that the democratic parties will also agree on this in the future” she told the “New Osnabrück Times” (Sunday edition).
The AfD has no right to occupy such positions. “This has been confirmed by the Federal Constitutional Court. A Bundestag Vice President must win the majority of the votes in a democratic election. The AfD has not achieved this in this legislative period, as the majority of the parliament did not consider their candidates suitable representatives of the German Bundestag” Haßelmann said, explicitly sharing this view.
